The biggest little problem I have heard lately is employees texting on the job.

One text message is no big deal.  You lose a minute or so of productivity per text message.  But what happens when someone receives and sends 30 text messages an hour as they carry on at least three conversations?

You know you need to work on your business plan.  Do you work on your job descriptions?

You need to have training from day one that you bring someone new to your team so they know the whole structure of the business and how their role is important.

What happens to someone who no longer makes the business money?

Innovation is the key to success.  But where do you look for it?

One way to learn about innovation is to look at the fastest growing companies in the world.  Usually, these are the guys who get venture capital funding.  They are looking for fast growth and a five to seven year payout.

Amar Bhidé does a study (on the macroeconomic level) of these high growth VC funded companies in The Venturesome Economy: How Innovation Sustains Prosperity in a More Connected World.

Bhidé points out that over the last 100 years, “the nontraded sector has increased from 60 percent to about 80 percent of GDP” (Bhidé  298).
